Preparing for kindergarten is such a major milestone, and in our area most public school districts start enrolling families early in the year so they can plan for classrooms, staffing, bus routes, and more. Below is everything you need to know for the 2026–27 school year, including registration opening dates (where available) and direct links to each district’s registration page.
Who needs to Register: Your child should be registered if they will be 5 years old on or before the district’s cutoff date (usually August 31, 2026). Once registered, families will be asked for key documents such as birth certificate, proof of residency, and immunization records, so gather those early!
Registration Links: Below is a list of each town’s registration link along with the date registration opens
Needham: Registration opens Jan 12th
Wellesley: TBD
Newton: Registration opens March 2nd
Brookline: Registration opens Jan 12th
Westwood: TBD
Natick: Registration opens in February
Weston: TBD
Watertown: March
Tips For a Smooth Registration:
- Collect your docs early: birth certificate, immunization record, proof of residency (lease, utility bill, tax bill), and parent photo ID.
- Watch email and postal mail: Many districts send reminders based on census data or preschool enrollment lists.
- Register early: Even if there’s no hard deadline yet, getting your child registered soon after the portal opens helps the district plan.
- Follow up: After submitting online, check your email for next steps like document upload or screening/ orientation dates.
