Beyond Brunch: 5 Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day

5 fun ways to celebrate Mom this Mother's Day

Mother’s Day is often associated with long brunch lines, prix-fixe dinner menus, and restaurant reservations made weeks in advance. And while a lovely meal out can be a great way to celebrate, there are so many other thoughtful and memorable ways to honor the moms in your life. This year, why not think outside the restaurant table? Here are some fresh ideas to make Mother’s Day extra special

Get Outside

Enjoy the beauty of spring by heading out to a local trail, park, or botanical garden. Bring a camera, pack some snacks, and make it about slowing down and spending time together. Nahanton Park in Newton is offering a Mother’s Day Bird Walk from 8am-10:30am. If you’re up for a quick trip to the city, Duckling Day at the Boston Public Garden runs from 10am-12pm, but make sure to register ahead of time.

Book a Fun Class Together

Sign up for a one-time workshop she’ll love: pottery (we love The Painting Place), painting, cooking, or even a fun workout class together. Not only will you both try something new, but you’ll also create special memories to remember the day by.

Shop

Instead of last-minute flowers, find her something that feels special and thoughtful. Support a local boutique, a women-owned business, or shop for gifts that give back — like jewelry, candles, or handmade crafts that have heart behind them. Bonus points if you wrap it beautifully or add a handwritten note! Check out our Mother’s Day Gift Guide to get her something we know she’ll love.

Create a “Mom Adventure Day”

Plan a day built around her favorite things. Start with a coffee and pastry at her go to spot (we love Salt Patisserie and Le Petit Four) and then visit a plant nursery to pick out something new for the garden. Stop by a local art gallery (Mother Brooks Art & Community Center is hosting a Mother’s Day Celebration) or pop into a charming bookstore (Hummingbird Books hosts a weekly 11am story time) for a little browsing. End the day with cozy takeout or a homemade dessert at home. Thoughtful stops and small surprises will make the day feel truly unforgettable.

Book a Relaxing Experience

Keep it close to home with something low-key and relaxing: treat her to a manicure and pedicure, a chair massage, or a blowout at her favorite salon. A little pampering goes a long way without the need for a big trip. For something unique, Frost and Float Spa in Newton is hosting a special Mother’s Day breathing and cryotherapy experience.
