Meet Emily Barker, a born and raised Weston mom of two and the heart behind Little Love Language. With a master’s degree in Special Education and a deep passion for supporting children and families, Emily created her business to help parents build stronger, more meaningful connections with their kids by understanding that behavior is a form of communication. Through her work, she helps children feel seen, heard, and safe while empowering parents to feel more confident, calm, and connected in the everyday moments of motherhood. We’re so lucky to have such an incredible resource right here in our community. Let’s get to know Emily!

Tell us about your family! How many children do you have, where are you from, and where do you live now?

I live in Weston, MA where I was born and raised. I have two girls (ages 8 and 11).

What’s your favorite aspect about being part of this community?

I love moms supporting moms. It is the hardest job in the world, but also the most rewarding, which is why I’m passionate about what I do and promoting connection between parent and child.

What’s your favorite family activity to do in the area?

We like to go for local hikes in the area Weston and Lincoln.

Tell us more about your background and what why you started Little Love Language

I hold a master’s degree in Special Education and have always felt called to support vulnerable children. Becoming a parent, however, deepened that purpose and opened my eyes to how much support parents truly need. I care deeply about helping children feel safe expressing themselves, which is why the tools I teach focus on nurturing open communication and emotional safety at home. I started this business because motherhood reshaped my perspective I want every child to feel seen, heard, valued, and understood, and I help parents build the connection and confidence to make that possible. Ultimately, I help parents understand that behaviors are a form of communication and to promote overall connection.

What do you love most about what you do?

I love that I promote a deeper connection and understanding between parent and child, while simultaneously helping parents feel more regulated so that they can find more joy in parenting.

It’s so hard to balance work and mom life. How do you maintain a healthy work life balance?

I love this topic and it’s one that I help my clients with!! It’s so hard, but I make sure to find time for the very small things every day that help me feel regulated and cared for. It can be as simple as waking up 20 minutes early to ground myself before my family is awake, or just making my cup of coffee and truly enjoying it while in the presence of my children. I like to say “yes” when my children ask me to help them or play with them, understanding that my “to do” list will get done when it gets done.

What is the best advice you’ve gotten from another mom?

Enjoy our children now.. they grow up so fast!!

What is the best advice you’d like to give a mom?

At the heart of it, what our children really need is to feel connected to us, and it’s so much easier than it can feel. Their behaviors are actually invitations for connection, so instead of seeing them as “problems to fix”, we should view them as opportunities to learn, teach and connect.
